Yuna Mage - from rough to clean

A child of a god and an unintentional angel. The angel of death reincarnated. A devil, impossible to kill. Psychotic, mad, and despises all living things. This is....

Yuna Mage....

This is a drawing I started early yesterday morning and wanted to finish that same day but I ended up walking 4 hours from one end of town to the other. Felt good to take that walk, but still. Anyway, I wanted to experiment a little with my color blending and trying to weed out the rough hair ends of my characters. This is a good start.

I always start with a rough sketch. Not those circle line things for a skeleton. I never, actually, learned to do that. Then I trace over the rough sketch to clean up the lines, select the surrounding area and black it out to give it a silhouette appearance, add solid colors for certain parts, then I do the rest. The main reason for the solid colors and the silhouette is because it doesn't look as appealing to me without them. Sure, it would look like a stencil air brushing, but it loses it's dramatic feel.
